I cannot think of a government that lasted more then 50 years without some serious degree of corruption, no matter which direction it leaned politically. Maybe that is why Thomas Jefferson said something about each generation needed its own revolution.

thats a pretty sad historical fact. by no means would that justify any corrupt government, or people like us giving up our hope for a better world.
by the way, i think i read something of some ancient indus valley civilization that was indeed peaceful etc...until they got run over by some barbarians to such an extent that little is known about them today due to a near complete destruction of their culture. :(
